Meet Xiyu Huang (Charmy)
Natural Health Specialist
Growing up in Shenzhen, China, I became interested in natural healing at an early age. My parents made herbal teas and soups for every health condition. It was when I saw my mother's arthritis improve with acupuncture treatment that I decided to pursue a career in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. This field of work would allow me to help and positively impact people's lives.

I hold a diploma from the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and am a Registered Acupuncturist and Traditional Medicine Practitioner. I am a member in good standing with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO).

The Focus of my treatment philosophy is a belief that every client is a unique individual whose complaints require an individualized treatment plan. Through open and direct communication, I try to identify the root causes of a client's symptoms rather than focus solely on a specific pain source or complaint. In addition to relieving pain and improving function, together, we will try to modify personal lifestyles and habits in order to enhance the effects of treatment. This helps to achieve sustainable long term improvements and increases the clients overall wellbeing. As the treatment process progresses, my goal is to help clients understand and better respond to their bodies' signs and signals. This approach seeks to provide relief from a client's current discomfort as well as to ensure that symptom recurrences are prevented. The ultimate treatment goal is a balance of mind and body for optimal health.

I often combine "Tui Na" with acupuncture and other treatment modalities (ie. herbal prescriptions, cupping, electro acupuncture, nutritional recommendations, and exercises) in order to achieve satisfactory clinical results quickly.

What is Tui Na?
Tui Na is a form of deep tissue massage that has been practiced in China for more than 5,000 years. It is defined as "the ancient healing art of fingers and strength." Manipulative techniques include palpating, rejoining, opposing, lifting, pressing, lifting, kneading, pushing, and holding the body to apply pressure to the meridian, accupoints and groups of muscles and nerves. Tui Na removes blockages and deeply impacts the positive energy of the body.

I have over 12 years of clinical experience. Developing and implementing individualized health care and treatment plans in a trusting, comfortable environment leads to effective naturopathic care.
Why Acupuncture?
It can help with

Allergies
Acupuncture has been used to treat a number of allergy symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose, headaches, and even itchy skin. Acupuncture treatment calms the exaggerated response to allergens. When symptoms are not present, acupuncture
treatment can also strengthen the identified TCM disharmonies that contribute to an allergic reaction.
Migraine Headaches
Significant muscle tension in the neck and upper back is common for people with migraines and headaches. Applying needles stimulate nerves causes your body to release hormones that trigger a response. This immune and circulatory system stimulation is what relieves migraines and tension headaches.
Sport Injury
Acupuncture is an effective treatment for sports injuries because it can:
-help reduces pain
-increase range of motion
-increase recovery and healing time

These effects are accomplished during treatment because acupuncture reduces inflammation. Thus, increasing blood flow will help your body heal itself faster.

Sciatica
In 90% of cases, sciatica is caused by a herniated disc with nerve-root compression. Most commonly I treat using acupuncture with electrical stimulation, tui na and an individualized herbal medicine or herbal medicine patches that addresses inflammation and support local tissues involed.
Infertility
Acupuncture combined with Tui Na and herbal medicine can increase blood flow to the endometrium. This helps to facilitate a thick-rich lining that will increase the chance of a healthy pregnancy.
Cosmetic
Cosmetic acupuncture is anti-aging. Treatment will relax the muscles in the face and boost collagen to reduce wrinkles. It also promotes circulation and boosts elastin to firm and tone the face.
